It’s a beautiful day for a bike ride, and that’s exactly how some will spend their morning today on the Ghost Town Trail.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Town Trail, Indiana County Parks and Trails joins forces with the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority for a twenty-mile bike ride starting at 9 AM in Vintondale. The riders will pedal north on the trail’s Rexis Branch,, travel the 12-mile Cambria & Indiana Trail Extension, and take a two-mile ride downhill into Nanty Glo for lunch. After that, the riders will return to Vintondale on the main trail for a 1 PM program near the Eliza Furnace with keynote speaker Tom Sexton, the regional director of the Rails to Trails Conservancy.
The Ghost Town Trail opened on October 1st, 1994. The C&I Extension opened in 2017, and future plans include an extension to Loretto. On the Indiana County side, the trail connects to the Hoodlebug Trail near Josephine in Burrell Township.
