While flu activity remains high in Pennsylvania, the pace is starting to slow down.
The PA Department of Health said that as of last week, 44,918 cases of lab-confirmed flu were reported during the flu season that started September 29th of last year. That’s an increase of over 10,800 from the previous week’s total. Seeing a more dramatic spike is the number of Flu-related deaths in the state, as that went from 32 to 56. The percent of emergency room visits resulting in a flu diagnosis is high across all age groups. While the pace has slowed, health department experts say there may be another surge in the coming weeks.
As far as statewide RSV numbers are concerned, activity is high but may be peaking. 24,202 lab confirmed RSV cases were reported.
For Indiana County, 115 cases of flu have been reported through the season. That’s an increase of 26 over a week’s time. For RSV, Indiana County is reporting 16 lab-confirmed cases, an increase of five over the week.
