An auction of unclaimed property will be held by the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury next week.
Treasurer Stacy Garrity said the auction will have 5500 items hitting the block ranging from jewelry to collectables. Most of the property comes from forgotten safe deposit boxes. Treasury workers will take at least three years to find the owners, but unclaimed items will be sold as part of auctions held twice a year. This will make room for more items to be stored in the Treasury vault. All items are carefully documented. Net proceeds will remain with the treasury until the rightful owner comes forward.
The auction will be conducted by Pook and Pook, and those interested can register with them on their website. The auction takes place March 26th and 27th.
