In a brief statement, Homer City Redevelopment said that Saturday’s demolition of the smokestacks and cooling towers at the former Homer City Generating Station a success.
Four stacks and three cooling towers were imploded around 7:30 as crowds watched from roadways, backyards and other areas around Center Township. Three of the four stacks were destroyed completely, but a portion of the formerly tallest stack of the group remained upright. When asked about it, HCR Vice President Robin Gorman said there will be no further implosions and was not unexpected because of the sheer height of the tower. She said it will “likely be recharged and come down very soon”.
