A car was destroyed by a fire Friday morning in Homer City.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Homer City Fire Department to Route 119 South shortly before 11 AM after a Saturn SUV caught fire near the intersection with Greenville Road. Chief Terry Gardner said one person was in the car at the time and they were able to get out unharmed.
Gardner said the lack of gasoline in the vehicle made it easy for firefighters to extinguish the fire.
No exact cause was determined; however, fire officials say an issue with the battery led to the fire. Traffic on 119 was reduced to one lane for a brief period of time so a tow truck could get the SUV off the roadway.
