IUP Hall of Fame tackle and wrestler Jack Ferguson has passed away.
Ferguson, a Blairsville native, was a member of the 1957-58 IUP football team and played offensive guard and nose tackle. He also took third place at that year’s PSAC wrestling championships.
After leaving IUP, Ferguson joined the Petersburg Vikings of the Midwest Football League from 1962-67 and was named the team’s Most Valuable Lineman his rookie season.
Ferguson retired in 1992 from the chemical company BASF and was a long-time volunteer at IRMC and contributor to the Western PA Conservancy.
He was awarded the Honorary Bell Ringer Award in 2007 and played a key role in establishing the Nancy L. Ferguson Memorial Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to IUP offensive linemen.
Arrangements are under the direction of the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home in Blairsville. He was 86.
