The deadline for Pennsylvanians to apply for and get a REAL ID has been extended into the spring of 2025.
PennDOT announced earlier this week that in response to the national COVID-19 declaration, the deadline to apply for a REAL ID was extended to May 7th of 2025. Starting that day, a REAL ID-compliant form of identification or another federally-accepted form of identification will be required to board domestic commercial flights, enter military bases or any federal facility that requires an ID at the door. Getting the upgraded ID is optional for Pennsylvania residents.
Those interested in acquiring a REAL ID will need to provide one document proving you are a lawful resident of the United States, provide proof of a social security number, Pennsylvania residency and proof of legal name or date of birth changes.
