The Marion Center School District has scheduled a public meeting to review its proposed Comprehensive Plan, which will cover 2022 to 2025. The meeting will be held next Wednesday, the 17th, from 2 to 7 PM in the WA McCreery School cafeteria, and dinner will be served.
The district invites community stakeholders to have a say in finalizing the plan, including Marion Center’s “mission, vision, values, and goals.”
The 41-page Comprehensive Plan includes identified “strengths and challenges” and the goals, actions, and developmental steps that will address them. Among the strengths are a number of academic achievements, especially in the elementary grades, higher than average scores across the district in PSSA testing, the expansion of dual enrollment opportunities, and an advanced technology curriculum at the high school.
Some of the identified challenges are continued declines in attendance, which is below the state average in two of the three district school buildings; ongoing struggles in English language Arts based on “continuous staff roll-over at the Junior High School level”; significant declines in math scores in the 6th and 7th grades and concerns at all levels; and a rise in mental health concerns.
Anyone wishing to attend Wednesday’s meeting should fill out the form at the district’s website, mcasd.net.
