The Wolf administration announced on Monday that the state’s Covid-19 vaccine distribution program will now move into phase two today instead of next Monday, meaning that all Pennsylvanians over the age of 16 are now eligible to receive the vaccine.
Acting PA Secretary of Health Allison Beam said that the decision to make all adults eligible for Covid-19 vaccines starting today was made with the state hearing from vaccine providers that they were having trouble filling appointments.
Beam added that the state continues to see a demand for Covid vaccines.
Beam says that the change will provide earlier access to many people, and will also simplify and streamline operations for vaccine providers, who now no longer have to check the eligibility of people making appointments.
As of yesterday, 35,540 vaccines have been distributed in Indiana County, with 14,285 people fully vaccinated and 21,255 receiving at least one shot. Across Pennsylvania, more than 2.4 million people have received their full vaccination, and more than four million have been partially vaccinated.
