The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission voted last week to suspend rate increase requests from PA-American Water Company and the PAWC wastewater division.
The suspension will allow the commission to investigate the requests. PAWC is proposing an increase of almost 24 percent over two years across the system. The average customer using 3,458 gallons of water would see an increase of 13.9 percent in their bill in 2021 and another 5.8 percent in 2022, increasing the bill from $57.85 to $65.91 next year and $69.73 in 2022. Increases would also be seen in wastewater rates. PA American Water said the rate increases would fund system improvements
The requests will be suspended for up to seven months from the time the rates would have become effective. Final decisions on the rate increases are due by January 28, 2021.
PA American Water Company serves more than two million people in more than 400 communities. That includes 19,000 customers served in Indiana Borough and White Township.
